TT Global Foundation is proud to announce the successful completion of a water borehole project in Ogun State, Nigeria, marking its first initiative in the country. The newly constructed borehole is solar-powered and will serve approximately 10,000 residents in total, including those from the immediate community and five interconnected rural communities (Oke Ikaana Community), providing them with access to a stable source of safe drinking water at no cost.
Access to clean water has been an ongoing challenge for the residents of Oke Ikaana Community, as they were previously dependent on a single pay-per-use local government-owned water borehole, alongside a few non-dried-up wells in the area. Women and children were disproportionately affected by this, as significant time was required for water collection, a responsibility that fell on them, thereby taking away their time to participatein education or pursue livelihood opportunities. This accentuated the gender gap by taking away the chance to learn, develop, and earn themselves.

With our new solar-powered water system in place, we expect to see significant improvements in health outcomes, resulting in a reduction in waterborne illnesses. The short travel distance and uninterrupted water supply will alsomean that women and children will have more time available to engage in productive activities and attend school.
This marks the beginning of the TT Global Foundation’s social investment journey in Nigeria, and we aim to expand our social impact in the region further over time.
