We are excited to announce the completion of the new fully equipped ICT lab at Onsando Girls DEB Secondary School in Nyamira County, Kenya. This project has been in the works since 2024 (See our previous article for more background).
Built to address the lack of technology access and quality digital education that many girls and young women face in rural Kenya, this computer lab will play a key role in bridging the gender gap in digital education, one of the primary missions of the Tokyo Technology Foundation.
We began by upgrading the existing lab space, which included roof restoration, tiling, wall painting, and installation of doors and windows. The space was then equipped with 40 computers, a smart board and brand-new furniture.
With the space now ready, our next plan is to develop and support IT classes specifically tailored for Onsando students, many of whom will be introduced to computers for the very first time. The IT classes will serve as a crucial initial step for these girls to become digitally empowered, significantly expanding their future opportunities.
