At TT Global Foundation, we believe in the importance of providing equal learning opportunities for students from all walks of life, particularly those with disabilities. Thus, we are proud to share our latest initiative in Pakistan, a two-phase renovation project at the Government Deaf and Defective Hearing High School for Boys, located in Gujranwala, home to over 150 students with hearing impairments.
Since its first opening in 1986, the school has had little to no investment, resulting in run down and worn-out building and furniture, and non-functioning utilities.
We began the renovation process early this year by addressing the school’s immediate needs, including installation of a new underground bore to ensure water supply, provision of 15 computers and ergonomic chairs to their computer lab, and furniture repair.
The 2nd phase of the renovation, completed in August, mainly focused on building restoration, major tile work, electrical work, upgrade of student and staff washrooms, and complete building and room repaint.
As shared by the vice-principal, Ms. Aneeka Zafar,
“These improvements have truly touched our students hearts. They feel so happy and valued walking into a bright and clean school and it really empowered them to learn with confidence."
Their situation is unfortunately common across many educational facilities for children with special needs and disabilities located outside of the main Pakistan cities, where the lack of funding is long-standing. Looking ahead, TT Global Foundation intends to support more of these facilities in Pakistan, helping to break down barriers faced by these children and providing them with access to the same learning and growth opportunities as non-disabled students receive in the best big-city schools.
